The start of the Stars’ season was postponed because many of their players had Covid-19 and they suffered through a second postponement when frigid temperatures hit Texas. They got off to a red-hot start, but this team has totally fallen apart. They have one win in their last six games and they have just two victories in 13.

The NHL paused its season on March 12, 2020. It was a decision weeks in the making, pushed into action when other pro sports began to shutter their operations. The next year would see the NHL take dramatic measures to continue playing games, including "bubble" cities with empty arenas, regular-season and playoff realignment and an incalculable amount of testing for COVID-19. But it all started there, on March 12, when hockey hit the pause button. The Sharks started the season with an extended road trip and that didn’t go well. Unfortunately for San Jose, they just wrapped up a six-game homestand and they managed to win only once. Both Brent Burns (12 points in 22 games) and Erik Karlsson (seven points in 18 games) simply don’t look like the same players they once were. It’ll be interesting to see if they can up their production in the near future.

The win snaps what had been a five-game losing streak for the Devils and is only their second win over their past 10 games. It is also their first regulation win since a 3-2 win over this very same Bruins team back on February 18. The other, really the last, concern I have about Johnson is his inconsistency. Even as he is outscoring Beniers, Beniers averages 0.7 primary points (goals + first assists) per game, including his time with Team USA at the WJC, where he didn’t put up big numbers. Johnson, on the other hand, has 0.54 primary points per game, as he is nearly three times as likely as Beniers to get a second assist on a goal. Another thing I like to look at is who is he producing against. The top teams this year in the Big 10 are Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Against the latter two teams, Johnson has amassed two goals and two primary assists in eight games. Beniers put up two goals and four primary assists in six games against those other two powerhouses, having missed the first two Minnesota games due to the WJC.
