PECOTA projects the reigning American League champs to win 87 games and finish second in the AL East behind strong pitching and a mediocre lineup. The margins could get tight. By FanGraphs’ projections, the Rays wind up fourth in a jumble of .500-ish teams. Atlanta Braves MLB Design Face Coverings

“It comes down to production at our level, that’s what it’s really about,” Girardi said. “I know Scotty has power and I don’t want to take that away, but I also want him to get on base. I think that’s really important because he does have that speed element, take what the defense gives you.

Why are the White Sox saying that's OK? They've been working Vaughn out in the outfield for a while now, dating back to his time at the team's alternate training site in Schaumburg last summer, as Hahn mentioned. He's shown flashes of athleticism this spring at the position he was drafted to play, first base. Now he's got a new challenge, with just a week until Opening Day.

"It’s a huge honor and that’s why we take it so seriously and don’t announce too soon and we don’t jump the gun," Kapler said Monday on KNBR's "Murph & Mac" show. "I will say this, I understand that other clubs out there announce their Opening Day starter sooner. But the one thing you don’t want to do is unwind that."

I looked at the top 25 players in our ranking and added up their Baseball-Reference and FanGraphs WAR since 2018 to see which players had the biggest difference between their WAR ranking and their MLB Rank listing. The biggest difference belonged to Max Scherzer, but that's understandable given his age (36) and his so-so performance in 2020 (3.74 ERA). Story is next, with a difference of 12 spots. He's in his prime at 28 years old, he has power, he can run (he led the NL in steals in 2020 and is a good bet to go 30-30 in 2021), he plays great defense (+20 runs saved over the past two seasons) and he has done it now for three seasons in a row.
